STILL LIFE (2014)

EN Still Life is a contemporary vanitas which highlights the transience, the fragility and the changeability of existence. It corresponds to the phase of the acceptance of the trauma in the mourning process, as described in the Developmental Psychology. It consists of a transparent urn with my body’s same width and length measurements. One of the sides is soaked with my blood and you can read the text STILL LIFE written in negative. Once outside the body, the blood immediately changes aspect: the cells begin to oxidize and die as it happens to all of us in our life cycle. It is a very fragile material that, spread on a non-porous surface, it begins to fade, crack and fall off, becoming dust deposited at the base of the urn. So the piece shows a progressive change, slow but inexorable that entails an acceptance of the mutability of the flesh and of our own disappearance.

SP Still Life es un vanitas contemporáneo que destaca la fugacidad, la fragilidad y la capacidad de cambio de la existencia. Corresponde a la fase de aceptación del trauma dentro de las fases del duelo descritas en la Psicología del Desarrollo. Consiste en una urna transparente con las mismas medidas de ancho y largo de mi cuerpo. Uno de los lados está empapado en mi sangre y se puede leer el texto STILL LIFE escrito en negativo. Una vez fuera del cuerpo, la sangre cambia de aspecto inmediatamente: las células comienzan a oxidarse y mueren como nos sucede a todos en nuestro ciclo de vida. Es un material muy frágil que, extendido sobre una superficie no porosa, comienza a desvanecerse, agrietarse y caer, convirtiéndose en polvo depositado en la base de la urna. Así que la pieza muestra un cambio progresivo, lento pero inexorable que conlleva una aceptación de la mutabilidad de la carne y de nuestra propia desaparición.
