EN LA SANGRE/ IN MY BLOOD (2011)

"In my blood" speaks of identity and memory. After all, the fear of death is the terror to stop being, and the rejection of the death of the other responds to a fear of oblivion. As a result of my parents' illness, I began to focus on self-perception and the influence of cultural roots and family ties. My mother taught me how to sew, we were connected to each other through the act of sewing. The work shows images of my body intervened with thread soaked in my own blood. With it I write in my body phrases that I have heard all my life and that I have taken as if they were part of me, erasing the boundary between the innate and the influence of what I learned or apprehended. All the prayers were pronounced by members of my family who no longer exist and with whom I feel a very strong emotional bond. Their influence is undeniable, their legacy is in my blood.
"En la sangre" habla de identidad y memoria. Después de todo, el miedo a la muerte es el terror a dejar de ser, y el rechazo de la muerte del otro responde a un miedo al olvido. Como resultado de la enfermedad y muerte inminente de mis padres, comencé a centrarme en la auto percepción y la influencia de las raíces culturales y los lazos familiares. Mi madre me enseñó a usar la aguja, estábamos conectadas a través del acto de coser. El trabajo muestra imágenes de mi cuerpo intervenidas con hilo empapado en mi propia sangre. Con él escribo en mi cuerpo frases que he escuchado toda mi vida y que he tomado como si fueran parte de mí, borrando el límite entre lo innato y la influencia de lo que aprendí o aprehendí. Todas las oraciones fueron pronunciadas por miembros de mi familia que ya no existen y con quienes siento un vínculo emocional muy fuerte. Su influencia es innegable, su legado es parte de mi sangre.
